EUROPE'S fastest MPV - the Vauxhall Zafira Turbo with a top speed of 137mph and a 0-60mph time of eight seconds - was launched at the Geneva Motor Show. Powered by the 2.0-litre 187bhp Ecotec engine first seen in the Vauxhall Astra Coupe last year, it is claimed to give the Zafira sports car-like performance.

Fuel consumption is 28.5 mpg on the combined cycle. Displaying wider wheel arches than the conventional Zafira and shod with 17-inch tyres, the Turbo also features a front spoiler, pronounced side skirts and a rear spoiler. Internally, the vehicle has Recaro sports seats, leather steering wheel and white instrument dials.

Due to go on sale in the UK in September it is expected to cost about £20,000. Geneva also saw the world debut of the Astra Cabriolet which will go on sale in the UK in June powered by a choice of either Vauxhall's 1.8 124bhp petrol engine costing about £17,000 on-the- road or the 2.2 146bhp powerplant found in the VX220 and Astra Coupe costing a fraction under £18,000.
