INCHCAPE has confirmed it is to shut down the Inchcape Vehicle Contracts head office in Norwich.

The move comes as the firm pushes ahead with a merger with its sister company Inchcape Fleet Solutions, based in Portsmouth. In total 65 full and part- time staff will be affected, although the move will create 35 jobs in Portsmouth, for which Norwich-based staff can apply. In addition, four roles within the purchasing function will be relocated to Inchcape UK's Milton Keynes office.

Fleet NewsNet revealed in August that the firm was planning to shut the office as part of a streamlining operation.

Terry Bartlett, managing director of Inchcape Fleet Solutions, said: 'This move brings together two operations which already have strong synergies. When combined we will be able to maximise resources, develop new leading-edge products and grow an exciting business.'

As well as the move, the Inchcape Vehicle Contracts name is being abandoned in favour of the single Inchcape Fleet Solutions brand.
