AN electrical appliance supplier has switched its fleet of vans from white to silver in a bid to get away from the 'White Van Man' stereotype.

Glen Dimplex, which supplies cooking appliances, has replaced its fleet with 100 silver Nissan Primastar vans (pictured right) chosen for their high specification and load carrying ability.

Andrew Winstone, service manager, said: 'We chose silver to get away from the public perception of 'White Van Man'.

The vehicles, which will be run for 90,000 miles on contract hire, were chosen following a trial of several van manufacturers.

Winstone added: 'We estimate the fleet will grow by between 125 and 150 vehicles in the near future and we look forward to developing our relationship with Nissan.'

Research completed by Renault last year indicated a 150% increase in alternative- coloured vans being sold to fleets over the past five years.
