MERCEDES-Benz is recalling cars fitted with its hi-tech brake system as a precaution following the discovery of faults on high-mileage vehicles.

The problem affects cars fitted with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC), and includes E-class saloons built from March 2002, E-class estates built from March 2003 and SL roadsters built from October 2001.

It seems to affect vehicles covering high mileage and with frequent braking, such as taxis.

But irrespective of mileage and the servicing regime, new E-class and SL drivers will be asked to visit an authorised Mercedes-Benz workshop for a free check.
