A VAUXHALL Zafira prototype using fuel-cell technology has completed a 6,025-mile marathon from Norway to Portugal.

The hydrogen-powered car almost doubled the previous distance record for a fuel-cell car.

Dr Udo Winter, chief engineer at General Motors fuel cell activities, said: 'The long-distance drive went very smoothly indeed. It shows that the level of reliability attained by the fuel cell propulsion system is very high.'

The marathon stopped at 15 cities, including London, Paris, Madrid and Lisbon. Visit www.marathon.gm.com to view the day-to-day schedule.
