LCV registrations this year are set to be on a par with 2004 volumes.

November's total was 387,671 units. Year-to-date the total is down 0.6% and down 8.9% compared to the same month in 2004.

'Total CV registrations stayed at near record levels through 2005 and should hold close to 2004 volumes,' said Christopher Macgowan, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders' chief executive. 'But consumer caution in an economically tougher year has dented business confidence and slowed investment a little. High energy prices will carry this uncertainty into 2006.'

Sue Robinson, franchised dealer director of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, said: 'Many members are still reporting healthy order books, but it is only to be expected that there would be an adjustment at some stage, given the recent substantial growth in sales, and the greater economic uncertainty.'
