COMPANIES trying to ensure that drivers in private vehicles are insured to drive on business could struggle because insurers use a variety of codes to indicate the same level of cover.

The problem is made worse because there isn’t just one type of business-use insurance.

Drivers may be insured for business journeys, but to be insured to travel and take orders from customers and carry out the role of a salesman, a different type of insurance is needed. Members of the East Anglia region of the Association of Car Fleet Operators heard that it was impossible to tell from the insurance certificate and fleet managers may have to ask for the policy document to be certain.
