NORWICH Union is currently trialling biofuel cars in a move which could lead to an increased number appearing on fleets run by parent company Aviva.

And its commitment to greener motoring is being led from the top as the chief executive of its insurance arm has already tested a Saab 9-5 BioPower biofuel car.

Simon Machell, chief executive of Norwich Union Insurance, said ‘The performance seemed excellent from a driver’s perspective. I am pleased we have begun our journey into looking at new biofuel and car technology, but we have a long way to go.

‘However, following trials and when fuel becomes more readily available, discussions will take place as to the adoption of the model within the Aviva fleet.’

Norwich Union has been working with carbon reduction campaign group CRed, based at the University of East Anglia.
