Spyshot: BMW’s junior coupe

Two weeks ahead of its official unveiling, BMW’s 1 Series Coupe has been caught wearing minimal disguise.

The new model, which will bolster sales of the three and five-door hatchbacks, goes on sale later this year with a cabriolet version using a folding fabric roof to follow in 2008.

At launch there will be a choice of five engines – three 2.0-litre diesels offering 143, 177 or 204bhp, and two petrols – a 120i with 170bhp and a 130i offering 272.

Expect the Coupe to command a £1,000 premium over the hatchback, meaning the range will be priced from £21,000.
