2008 spyshot: Alfa Romeo 149

Yes, we know it looks like the Fiat Bravo, but trust us – this is the new Alfa Romeo 149, spotted undergoing cooling checks at the Nürburgring.

Much of the new car will be Fiat-sourced, but these shots show the production-spec front lights, grilles and air intakes that point to the final design.

There are echoes of the new Alfa Mito in the front end, and the bonnet is expected to be similarly sculpted.

Engines will be swiped from the Bravo – meaning two petrol and two diesel units with 120 or 150bhp – and a hotter version is expected too, either with or without a GTA badge.

That could boast around 250bhp.

Expect to see the 149 unveiled at the Geneva show next year, and go on sale the following autumn.
