The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is launching a new Meet the Experts event series including seminars for fleet managers and other professionals involved in work-related road safety.

The half-day seminars will give delegates opportunities to hear from and speak to experts about how to do minimise risk effectively.

Speakers from major fleet operators (including Tesco and Royal Mail) will talk about management strategies and driver development, and will encourage delegates to think about the human as well as business cases for a carefully thought out approach to risk.

The same seminar will run twice during the day, meaning delegates have the flexibility to choose a morning or afternoon session. Places will be limited to ensure that the events remain as interactive as possible.

They will take place at RoSPA’s training centre in Birmingham on February 28.

Seminars on other aspects of health and safety - worker involvement and effective training - precede this event on February 16 and 17 respectively.

Roger Bibbings, RoSPA’s occupational safety adviser, said: “This new series of events will enable those working in the field of health and safety to discuss issues and ideas with industry experts personally.

“As well as taking a look at case studies, the seminars will be an opportunity to share findings from research and best practice, and find out how to implement good ideas back in the workplace. RoSPA has campaigned on managing occupational road risk since 1996 and we know that sharing best practice is crucial in helping firms approach this issue effectively.

“During recession, when options for defending the bottom line and increasing sales and turnover are limited, cutting the avoidable losses associated with accidents becomes all the more important.”
