BMW will offer a sub-100g/km version of the new 1 Series after the car's UK launch in September.

The second-generation 1 Series hatchback will feature a choice of three diesel versions at launch, alongside two petrol options.

The new model will arrive in the UK in September with prices for petrol models starting at £19,375 on the road, while diesel versions will start at £20,195.

The diesel versions will be a 116bhp 116d, a 143bhp 118d and a 184bhp 120d. The standard 116d offers fuel consumption of 62.8mpg on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions on 118g/km on 16-inch wheels.

Later, BMW will introduce a special EfficientDynamics version of the 116d with CO2 emissions of 99g/km and fuel consumption of 74.3mpg on the combined cycle.

Petrol versions at launch will be the 136bhp 116i and 170bhp 118i. Both ise a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Both have CO2 emissions of less than 140g/km and fuel consumption of more than 45mpg.

The new model is slightly larger and roomier than the one it replaces, and all versions at SE grade and above will feature BMW's iDrive control interface.
