FleetMatics is to showcase the productivity benefits of its GPS fleet tracking solution at FM Ireland.

Visitors to Stand G19 at FMI will be able to experience a demonstration of the system and see all of its features firsthand.

One of the immediate benefits is that the system can help to plan and optimise routes. For example, City Bin Operations Director Niamh Bray said: “I wanted to know where certain trucks were going and be able to plan routes to prevent any overlap. With the FleetMatics GPS tracking system I can look at a certain area, see where all of my customers are and group accordingly,” she says. “This helps me schedule my routes. If I need to add another customer, I can look and see which truck would make the most sense and add that customer stop to their route.”

Through the GPS fleet tracking system it is possible to tag vehicles so that their exact location and the operator and equipment held on board are known. Therefore, if a non-planned request comes in it is possible to direct the nearest vehicle with the right equipment for the task and let the customer know exactly how long until they are attended to.

It is estimated that at least a 10% fuel saving can be achieved through the system by monitoring such factors as vehicle speed, idling time and fuel card usage. With the continuing rise in the price of fuel, the Return On Investment provided by the fuel savings alone can help pay for the system many times over.
