Trafficmaster is aiming to provide its Smartnav users with the ability to avoid the congestion that will be caused by the temporary road closures during the Olympic Games.

Not only is the company updating its mapping system with all the planned road closures, it also constantly updates routes to take account of traffic congestion as it happens.

Pat Gallagher, Trafficmaster’s director of in vehicle products, said: “During the Olympics Smatnav comes even more into its own as our system will automatically avoid routing users down roads that will be closed by the time the vehicle gets there.”

Fleet managers can also check their drivers’ whereabouts and progress in real-time without the need to install expensive additional equipment in the vehicle or office by using Trafficmaster’s Fleet Director.

Messages can be sent between the vehicle and office using the touch-screen to keep both drivers and managers abreast of changes during the day.

Fleet Director can also be used to log the time vehicles arrive at their destination and when they leave again as well as reporting exceptions such as excessive speeding, route variations and unauthorised stops.

The latest version allows a driver direct access to the Emergency services in the event of a major accident and the system can be used to call the Breakdown Company for mechanical assistance.

“Trafficmaster is much more than just the smartest satellite navigation system around; it is also a fleet management tool, a stolen vehicle tracking device and can be used to summons emergency assistance. If you installed that technology as individual units, the cost would be many times that of our Smartnav and Fleet Director services,” said Gallagher.
