Sure Group and South Liverpool Homes (SLH) have teamed up to launch their first electric vehicle, which will be used for gas servicing in South Liverpool.

The collaboration between the two companies will see service engineer Phil Dean use the zero emissions vehicle to carry out gas safety checks to the company's 3600 homes.

Gareth Rigby, SLH’s head of asset management said “As a socially responsible organisation, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and this is just one of many steps we are taking to help create a better environment for local residents.

“We are accredited under the ISO 14001 environmental management system and are about to embark on a project to install Solar PV panels to our homes.

“Electric vehicles improve air quality, reduce noise pollution ad we anticipate that the new van will be much more cost effective to run than a conventional vehicle, so it’s a win-win situation all round.”

The company is introducing a fleet of five Renault Kangoo Z.E. electric vans.

A full charge of 8 hours allow the Renault Kangoo Z.E to travel up to 106 miles. This gives an approximate cost saving of £9 per day.

Phil Spinks, fleet manager said: “The introduction of electric vehicles to our fleet was the obvious choice because of its ecological and sustainable qualities, whilst also protecting our local environment and reducing our carbon footprint.

“At Sure Group we take our green agenda seriously and this is just one of number of initiatives introduced to reduce emissions.”

The  introduction of the electric vehicle fleet Sure Group follows a programme of CO2 reduction within the company.
