Scot Group, trading as Thrifty Car and Van Rental, has acquired Allan White Motors, trading as Capital Car and Van Hire, for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 1996, Allan White Motors, which is based in Croydon, Surrey, currently operates a fleet of more than 400 vehicles, the majority of which are provided to the public sector on long-term contracts.

Purchasing the business will allow Thrifty, which already operates several large-scale public sector accounts, to grow its presence in the sector, it says.

Thrifty will continue to operate its existing Croydon branch until Q4 2023 when it will open an all-new ‘flagship’ site in the area, which will bring together both the existing Thrifty and Allan White Motors teams.

Martin Wilson, managing director of Thrifty Car and Van Rental UK, said: “Allan White Motors enjoys a first-class reputation and loyal customer base, which will fit perfectly with our business.

“Its expertise in the public sector allows us to further expand our footprint in this area of the market, while our ability to invest in the latest mobility technology and high specification vehicles enables us to futureproof this thriving and well-established small business.”

Thrifty currently operates 88 branches across the UK, having opened several new sites in south-east England earlier this year.
