A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance after claiming the brakes had failed on his Jaguar I-Pace.

The driver had called the police while behind the wheel, saying that the brakes had failed on his electric car.

Officers from Merseyside and Greater Manchester had to block the ‘runaway’ car between a number of police vehicles, bringing it to a stop on the M62 on Wednesday, March 6.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) launched an investigation after the incident.

Merseyside Police released a statement yesterday (Thursday, March 14) confirming that following an investigation, a man had been arrested in relation to the incident on the M62.

It continued: “An investigation, supported by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), is underway and a 31-year-old man from Bolton has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance.”

It added that he had been questioned and released under investigation, pending further inquiries.

In a statement, JLR said that it seeks to investigate all reports of issues relating to product safety and will continue to co-operate with Merseyside Police and the DVSA where required.
