Private hire company Greentomatocars is celebrating a "great achievement" under a driving performance scheme which measures safe and fuel-efficient driving.

Nineteen of the company’s drivers have been awarded Fleet Elite status under the programme managed by telematics provider GreenRoad.

The GreenRoad system is installed in the majority of Greentomatocars’ vehicles.

Using a traffic-light LED system on the dashboard, the system gives drivers real-time feedback on their driving manoeuvres, encouraging smoother, safer, and more fuel-efficient driving.

It also tracks the performance of the drivers and scores them according to various safety measures.

During 2016 the drivers achieved Fleet Elite status by meeting the criteria of 500 or more driving hours across the year while maintaining a consistent Safety Score of five or less safety events, such as harsh braking or acceleration, per 10 hours of driving over the calendar year.

Greentomatocars operates a performance bonus scheme whereby drivers can earn an additional weekly payment based on both their telematics safety score and feedback from passengers.

Many of the company’s Fleet Elite drivers are earning an additional £1,300 per annum simply by focusing on safety.

All Greentomatocars drivers who met the Fleet Elite standard received a certificate confirming their status, a pin badge and a £50 voucher in recognition of their achievement.

Sophie Jacobsen, head of service delivery at Greentomatocars, said: “We are really proud to have these drivers as part of the team and the feedback we receive is that passengers really appreciate their smooth, safe and efficient driving.

"This is a great achievement for our team and reflects the commitment and professionalism that our drivers display on a daily basis.

"Smoother, fuel-efficient driving is safer, provides more comfortable journeys for our customers and helps cut our carbon footprint – this is especially important to us as London’s original ethical car service.”
