Euro NCAP has awarded five-star safety ratings to both the BYD Dolphin and the Seal.

Both electric models from the new-to-the-UK Chinese brand scored top marks in the assessment.

The BYD Dolphin is a compact model that competes with cars like the Renault Zoe and Vauxhall Corsa Electric. The Seal is yet to officially launch but will be the first BYD saloon offered in the UK.

They join the existing Atto 3, which was awarded five stars by Euro NCAP in 2022.

Michael Shu, managing director of BYD Europe, said: “We are excited to witness the exceptional performance of all BYD models under the rigorous European safety test conditions. The BYD Seal and the BYD Dolphin now join the BYD Atto 3 in achieving the highest safety test ratings. That is something to be proud of. It underlines how hard BYD relentlessly works in the field of eco-friendly technological development. Customers have the reassurance that safety is always at the forefront of all our innovations.”

Key to the maximum test result, according to BYD, is its new generation e-Platform 3.0, which comprises the world’s first mass-produced highly integrated 8-in-1 electric powertrain, connecting all electric control units and management systems, and the Blade Battery. The BYD e-Platform 3.0 features a ‘multi-load path’ structure controlling how energy is absorbed by the car in the event of a collision, minimising intrusion into the passenger cabin.

The BYD Atto 3 was also awarded top marks in the Green NCAP assessement, this year, for its low environmental impact.
