Addison Lee has acquired London-based private hire fleet operator Green Tomato Cars for an undisclosed sum.

Launched in 2006, Green Tomato Cars was the capital’s first hybrid car service and today operates one of the largest zero-emission car passenger fleets in Europe with 500-plus vehicles.

The deal, which also includes the acquisition of executive car providers, Brunel and Travelhire, takes the Addison Lee fleet to more than 7,500 vehicles.

Travelhire Group had acquired Green Tomato Cars from Transdev in 2019, before buying Brunel from Europcar in 2021.

Addison Lee’s CEO, Liam Griffin, said: “I’m pleased to see Addison Lee unite these great London companies with shared values focused on quality, reliability, and sustainability.

“The London private hire market is thriving, and this acquisition supports our growth and ability to meet every Londoner’s transport needs.

“With London businesses now wanting their employees back in the office more frequently, demand for corporate travel is increasing. And, as London’s economy continues to bounce back, Addison Lee is in a stronger position than ever to offer safe, quality, and sustainable transport services.”

Addison Lee has been growing its electric vehicle (EV) fleet, having recently surpassed 1,000 zero-emission cars in operation, after committing to fully electrify operations with a £160 million investment in 2021

The electrification announcement followed Addison Lee's acquisition of the London operations of ComCab, City Fleet Networks and Flightlink International from the ComfortDelGro Corporation, which made it the largest private hire and taxi company in London.
