Lotus has revealed a "four-door hyper-GT", which will join its growing line-up of electric vehicles (EVs).

Following the launch of its Eletre electric SUV, the Emeya is the second model to launch that shifts the Geely-owned brand into new segments.

It uses a 102kWh battery, giving an estimated range of around 350 miles. Rapid charging capability of up to 350kW, means the Emeya can add 93 miles in just five minutes.

Lotus says the top-spec model will have 900PS and be able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds. Other powertrain options, shared with the Eletre, are likely to be offered.

The Emeya will compete with the Audi e-tron GT, Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, when it goes on sale in the UK.

“This is a Lotus like you have never seen before. We’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far to create a luxury performance car for the drivers, designed to inspire confidence, exhilarate with raw emotion and pure joy – connecting them to the road,” said Ben Payne, vice-president of Design, Lotus Group.

The body is sculpted for aerodynamics and includes active aero flaps at the front and a deployable rear spoiler, to keep drag to a minimum. There's also digital side view mirrors and flush-fit door handles.

The car's interior has a minimalist design, centred around a large infotainment touchscreen. There's seating for four, on board, and an array of high grade materials.

Production of the Emyea is scheduled to commence in 2024. Details about the price, range and specification are yet to be published.
