Hermes UK will reveal how it is tackling the issue of a shortage of professional drivers in the UK with its recruitment and apprenticeship initiatives at Fleet Live 2019 from October 8-9 at the NEC Birmingham.

Martin Colloff, Hermes UK head of client and network distribution, will hold a seminar session next week to discuss the topic of driver recruitment, retention and shortages in commercial fleets.

Fleet Live will give the fleet management community and decision-makers the chance to face future challenges and opportunities together with two days of learning, sharing and networking on October 8-9 at the NEC in Birmingham.

The event is complementary for fleet professionals and delegates can sign up for their ticket at www.fleet-live.co.uk/online-registration.

Collof is in charge of 650 articulates, 1500 trailers and 400 drivers, with 1.2 million parcels delivered daily.

He will explain how Hermes have put together a recruitment plan using an apprenticeship standard, and how they’re facing challenges such as skills gap for qualified drivers, a decreasing number of EU workers, the lack of diversity in the professional driving industry, as well as the wider impact of Brexit and legislation.

His session will be on October 8 at 11am, and he will be joined on stage by Kieran Smith, Driver Require chief executive, who will set the scene on tackling the current driver shortage challenges.

This is one of over 20 more to cover topics across operations, strategy and discover fleet theatres, tackling topics like business mobility, the transition to electric vehicles, company car taxation, data, safety and telematics.
