Fleet News has again linked up with Arval to gain exclusive access to the leasing and mobility provider’s annual Arval Mobility Observatory research.

The survey of more than 8,600 car and van fleet operators in 30 countries, including 300 in the UK, always unearths a series of thought-provoking trends and opinions which companies can use for benchmarking and to compare against their own policies and initiatives.

This year’s survey shows companies are generally upbeat about their growth prospects, but fearful over rising costs. They are making rapid progress towards electrification, with UK fleets ahead of counterparts in other countries.

Mobility solutions are being considered by more companies, but not at the expense of the company car, which remains a significant benefit and transport option for employees.

Among the positives was one glaring area of concern: grey fleet. Just 38% of fleets have a policy in place to manage their privately-owned vehicles used for work purposes and many of those admit that it is not comprehensive.

Any vehicle driven for business brings the same level of responsibility for the employer, whether a company car or a privately-owned vehicle, which means fleets need to give them the same level of risk management attention.
