Kia has recalled almost 1,000 new Sorentos in the UK due to a fault with the car’s eCall SOS feature.

The recall affects the latest-generation Sorento models produced between September 1 and December 14, 2020.

In case of an accident, the Sorento’s eCall system is designed to transmit the vehicle identification number (VIN) to the emergency call centre. However, on affected vehicles it has been discovered that if an airbag were to be deployed the VIN would not be transmitted.

The new Sorento was recently commended by Euro NCAP for its safety, with a five-star rating.

Kia dealers will reset the eCall system so that the VIN is transmitted accurately when appropriate.

Kia said is not aware of any injuries or accidents caused by this issue and is contacting owners with affected vehicles to arrange an appointment at their nearest Kia dealership for the eCall feature to be reset and updated.
