Nissan is to relaunch its popular Micra supermini as a fully-electric model, going on sale in Europe late this year.
The Micra, whose styling harks back to previous iterations of the model, will be available in two battery options – 40kWh and 52kWh – with ranges of 192 miles and 253 miles respectively.
The 40kWh models offer 122HP and 225Nm of torque, and these increase to 150PS and 245Nm for the bigger battery cars.
Both models can be rapid charged at an appropriate DC charger from 15-80% in 30 minutes, through their respective 80kW and 100kW on-board chargers, with a heat pump standard on all models.
The new Micra will also be equipped with V2L (vehicle-to-load) technology, allowing drivers to operate equipment which needs a three-pin 240v plug socket.
The interior features a 10.1-inch configurable digital driver display, while there is also a neighbouring 10.1-inch centrally-mounted touchscreen for the infotainment system.
The OEM has developed NissanConnect with Google built-in services and the Micra is the second vehicle in Nissan’s European range to have it built in as part of the infotainment system. It includes Googe Maps as standard.
The new Micra will be available with Nissan ProPilot assist, offering lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking.
Additional features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Speed Assist and Driver Monitoring System
It also offers Blind Spot Warning Intervention, Lane Change Warning, Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Occupant Safe Exit alert.
Arnaud Charpentier, Region Vice President, Marketing & Mobility, Nissan AMIEO, said: “We are proud to oversee the return of the MICRA name to Nissan’s range in Europe.
“It’s a name with over 40 years of history and the new chapter it will write for Nissan and our customer is a purely electrified one – but it remains true to its DNA of being playful, audacious and agile. It will electrify the streets wherever it goes.”
The Micra begins the manufacturer’s product offensive in Europe which will see four new fully-electric models by 2027 as part of its push towards electrification.
These include the Micra, followed by a new Leaf, Juke and an A-segment city car, as well as rolling out the upgraded third generation of Nissan’s e-Power technology to the Qashqai.
