Transpoco Telematics has launched a new collision management system that uses cameras with artificial intelligence (AI) to detect driver fatigue and distraction.

The launch of the new tech follows as research by Transpoco revealed that up to 40% of collisions occur as a result of driver fatigue and 44% are caused by distraction.

The research also found that 90% of driver fault accidents could have been avoided by using advanced collision management and driver assistance system (ADAS) technology.

Renown Consultants was fined £450,000 after its failure to manage driver fatigue, which led to the deaths of two employees.

The firm, which trades as Renown Railway Services, was found guilty of health and safety offences at Nottingham Crown Court in March.

Transpoco says it's new camera and data technology provides warnings and alerts for drivers generated in cab for accidents, evidence of driver fatigue and distraction, full visual and data recording of all driving events and alerts available for review by the fleet manager.

The collision management technology has been commissioned by engineering solutions company, Actavo, which operators a global fleet of around 1,500 vehicles.

GEM Motoring Assist warned fleets and drivers to be wary of the dangers of being tired behind the wheel.

The risks are particularly high among those who drive for their work as they are likely to be at the wheel for long periods, or have tight deadlines to meet in the course of a day, said GEM.
