My client is one of the UK's leading logistical transport companies and due to a recent promotion they are looking to recruit an experienced and methodical Transport Manager for an imediate start.
Job Details:
The successful candidate will need to ensure that all drivers work within the legal requirements of all legislation and that all vehicles meet the Road Traffic Act regulations.
Routing/Planning and liaising with colleagues to operate a fleet of approximately 65 vehicles ranging from vans to trailers.
To liaise with the warehouse, colleagues and customers to ensure the delivery schedule and service levels are met consistently together with full optimisation of available fleet and maximum capacity utilisation.
To manage the briefing and debriefing of all drivers and communicating such information as required.
Able to adapt and deal with any issues throughout the day as a matter of urgency, all customers affected are informed and this information is passed to colleagues and directors for full transparency.
To manage the holidays, sickness and absence for drivers ensuring compliance to company policy and requirements. Carry out return to work interviews prior to commencing any duties, set up follow up interviews when necessary and further action if required.
To ensure compliance of all reporting staff with company policies and procedures including the application of discipline procedures in line with company requirements.
To ensure that vehicle defect procedures are strictly adhered to and liaise with the workshops to limit down time to the absolute minimum.
To take responsibility for the day to day management of the operation as and when required. This will be expected irrespective of whether that responsibility falls within your immediate remit or forms part of your duties at the time.
Experience Required:
Essential
Previous experience of dealing with customer requirements.
Minimum of 2 years operational transport experience, preferably in general haulage and multi drop
Proven management of fleet resources in excess of 20 vehicles.
Excellent knowledge of transport and driver legislation.
Proven experience of setting and monitoring of achievable targets.
Productivity monitoring
Ability to plan
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Thorough and methodical approach to work.
Good verbal and numerical reasoning skills.
Desirable
CPC holder.
Previous experience in dealing with a vehicle maintenance unit in achieving high standards of service levels.
Shift working experience including night work.
