ROVER has published fuel consumption figures using the new EC test procedures for its entire car range. The move follows calls from PHH Vehicle Management Services for all manufacturers to publish both old and new style fuel consumption details for all their cars to allow fleet managers to compare fuel economy accurately (Fleet News August 16).

The new EC test cycle includes a series of accelerations and decelerations and a cold start to give a more accurate picture of 'real life' fuel economy. Rover points out that the figures only form the basis for comparison between different cars and cannot be compared with the old figures because they are achieved using different test procedures.

Sample combined figures (with old style Euromix figures in brackets): Rover 214i, 41.5mpg (43.4); Rover 216, 39.2mpg (40.8); Rover 220 SDi, 50.1mpg (54.6); Rover 414, 41.7mpg (40.8); Rover 416, 39.9mpg (39.7).
