RENAULT'S corporate and fleet sales director in France, Benoit Marzloff, is set to take over as head of Renault UK from December 1 in place of Michel Gigou who is to become president of Mack Trucks, a Renault subsidiary, in the US.

The appointment suggests that Renault is determined to further grow its fleet sales and overall market share, following a 70% increase in sales over the past five years. Gigou's reign saw sales soar from 73,000 in 1991 to 125,000 last year when Renault took a 6.4% share of the UK market.

He masterminded an aggressive price strategy, which positioned the entry-level Laguna as the best value car in its class. He also put in place a strategy for Renault UK to control its own used car supply through huge company-owned urban sites.
