THE most economical petrol and diesel-engined MPV is the SEAT Alhambra, according to new running costs data from Fleet Audits.

Detailing wholelife costs over three years/60,000 miles for 41 petrol-engined MPVs and 21 diesel-engined MPVs, the £16,305 on the road Alhambra 2.0 SE five-seat five-door tops the petrol models chart on 21.98p per mile. The £17,070 on the road Alhambra 1.9TDi five-seat five-door tops the diesel models chart on 20.32p per mile.

The Alhambra is the only MPV with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty and SEAT claims its prices are the most competitive in the burgeoning MPV sector. Fleet Audits says these factors contributed to the table-topping running costs alongside strong residual values, comparative exclusivity and strong equipment package including air conditioning across the range. Four versions of the Alhambra are on sale in the UK and SEAT expects to sell 600 this year.

Volkswagen stops the Alhambra's sister manufacturer having a one-two in the petrol models chart as the Sharan 2.0CL has a 22.21p a mile cost, just ahead of the seven-seat Alhambra 2.0 SE on 22.45p. SEAT took second spot in the diesel model chart with the Alhambra 1.9 TDi SE seven seat on 20.72p.
