Hot Volvo makes its debut

VOLVO has taken the wraps off a new high performance version of the S40 and V40 capable of almost 150mph. The new T4 extends Volvo's high successful 'T' branding on the 850 (now 70 series) to the 40 series, using turbocharging technology to breathe new power into the mid-range model.

With 200bhp on tap from the 1.9 turbo, the T4 sprints to 62mph in 7.3 seconds and sports uprated brakes, suspension and steering to handle the extra power. The newcomer also gets wider wheels, lowered suspension, twin headlights and new spoilers and customers can specify the usual range of equipment packs and options to suit their needs.

Exact prices have still to be finalised, but the entry level model will have an all-in price of less than £20,000. Dealers will start taking orders next month for delivery towards the end of September.
