VAUXHALL has released further details of the all-new Vauxhall Astra Estate, which will go on sale in the UK in the spring. The car's launch coincides with the official launch of three- and five-door hatchback versions of the new Astra, which will be followed by a four-door saloon version.

The fourth generation Astra's four-inch wider wheelbase means there is more front shoulder room and rear knee room. Load space is 1103mm wide, 790mm high and up to 1658mm long, giving a total luggage volume of up to 1500 litres - slightly smaller than the outgoing Astra.

Trim and engine line-ups will mirror those of the new hatchback variants, with Vauxhall promising that fuel consumption is improved by 8% as a result of newly-developed multivalve petrol and diesel engines. Standard equipment will include driver's airbag, head restraints and three-point seatbelts for all rear-seat passengers, luggage restraining rings and a load cover.
