RENAULT'S new Scenic has become the manufacturer's fifth car to be awarded the maximum five stars in Euro NCAP's crash tests.

The mini-MPV, on sale this month, joins the Laguna, Megane, Vel Satis and Espace to become among the safest cars in their class.

Euro NCAP chairman Max Mosley said: 'The results for the Scenic are particularly important as it sets the benchmark for this group of cars. Moreover, it is the first small MPV to be tested to an updated and more demanding Euro NCAP crash test protocol to achieve the top five star rating.'
