COMMERCIAL vehicle sales boomed in August, fuelled by a growing need for light delivery vehicles.

LCV sales reached 15,101 units in August, 21.9% up on 2002, and a year-to-date rise of 14.8%. Truck sales above 3.5-tonnes were 3,884 during the month, 5.9% up on 2002.

Alan Pulham, franchised dealer director for the Retail Motor Industry Federation said: 'Continued growth in internet sales has created demand for a strong delivery infrastructure based on vans and trucks.'
