FLEET managers and transport workers are healthier than the majority of employees, according to recent findings which have shown those in the industry exercise the most and are less likely to take days off sick.

The study, ‘Health in the Workplace’ by human resources group Ceridian, polled more than 1,000 employees and showed 43% of those in the transport sector exercise more than three times a week. However, staff would actively welcome advice on health from employers with 49% wanting more guidance.

Doug Sawers, managing director of Ceridian, said: ‘Employers have a golden opportunity to do more to educate their employees on living a healthier and happier lifestyle, yet 60% provided no advice at all over the last 12 months. Employers should do all they can to reduce the levels of worker absenteeism, which is currently running at a high average of 8.5 days a year.’

Initiatives companies could provide include on-site fitness facilities, weight loss courses or healthy menus. Download the report at www.ceridian.co.uk
