WE look at the career path of a fleet manager.

This week:

Andy Gray
Fleet manager RAC Auto Windscreens

How long have you been a fleet manager and what did you do before that?
I have been a fleet manager for more than 17 years and prior to this I worked within fleet maintenance and main dealer service departments.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Downtime of specially equipped vehicles that operate 24/7 and ensuring we have the right type of vehicle to suit our fast-moving business needs.

What have been your major successes as a fleet manager so far?
We have been through two major rebranding programmes involving re-livery and painting of hundreds of vans within very tight time scales. We have reduced accidents through driver assessments and training and constantly look at better ways of working.

What would you say to anybody considering joining the fleet industry?
Fasten your seatbelt and prepare for an exciting journey that presents a different challenge every day.

What was the first record you ever bought?
Something by Rod Stewart – possibly ‘Blondes Have More Fun’.
