THIS week we compare a new competitor in the upper-medium fleet sector, the Kia Magentis, against the Fleet News Award-winning Volkswagen Passat.

Both are entry-level diesels and have similar starting prices which suggests that the Magentis is priced too high or the Passat is a cheap car for what it is.
The Passat enjoys class-leading residual values and if the Magentis is to break into fleet sales then it will have to narrow that gap. It would fare better against the likes of the Ford Mondeo which has weaker values than the Passat.
Volkswagen Passat: price new £15,997
