CONTRACT hire and leasing group Lex has signed a £60 million deal with the RAC for roadside assistance and glass replacement on its 175,000-strong fleet.

The contract, which continues a partnership between the two groups, will run for six years.

Ian Thomson, general manager (driver services), Lex, said: ‘The award of this contract is excellent news for both parties.

‘It clearly demonstrates the faith we have in RAC and RAC Auto Windscreens to continue to provide the highest levels of service and the length of the arrangement will allow both organisations to develop long term strategies to improve the service levels further.’

Last year, RAC’s fleet team handled more than 100,000 calls from Lex customers for assistance and attended 60,000 breakdowns while RAC Auto Windscreens took 13,000 calls and replaced about 10,000 windscreens and windows.

The RAC has also awarded an outsourcing contract to Lex for the management of its fleet of 3,350 cars and vans.

The deal, worth more than £14 million a year, will run for four years with Lex supplying vehicles on three or five year cycles with maintenance.
