VOLKSWAGEN will head to the top of the space charts when its new Golf estate arrives in August.

With 505 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place, and 1,550 with them folded flat, the Golf has more load space than its key rivals – the Ford Focus (482/1,525) and Vauxhall Astra (470/1,550) estates.

The Golf estate will be offered with three engines: a 1.6-litre petrol with 100bhp and two turbodiesels – a 1.9 TDI with 105bhp and a 140bhp 2.0 model.

The UK line-up is still to be decided, but all will have air-conditioning, alloy wheels and roof rails. Expect prices of between £14,300 and £20,000.
