Not content with launching the new three-door range of 1 Series models and working on coupe and convertible models due to arrive next year, BMW is apparently considering a hot performance version.

This artist’s impression shows what a possible M1 model could look like, using the forthcoming coupe’s bodyshell but featuring big alloys and wheelarch blisters similar to those seen on its M5 big brother.

Power is said to come from the 343bhp 3.2-litre straight-six engine from the outgoing M3, endowing the M1 with a potential 175mph top speed. The M1 could be available late next year.
