Companies that don’t make use of the latest fleet management technology could be losing thousands of pounds a year by not efficiently utilising their mobile workers they have out in the field, research suggests.

The findings from the Aberdeen Group are echoed by Trimble, who says that while many firms see soaring fuel costs as a reason to invest in fleet technology, significant savings can come from the increased productivity of their field force.

“There is widespread recognition that fleet management solutions can greatly reduce vehicle and operating costs. However, these are often equalled by the savings that companies can generate through improved allocation of their work, helping employees complete more jobs per day,” said Andrew Yeoman, managing director of Trimble Fleet Solutions in Europe.

“Not only do companies see tangible savings from the technology, but many firms can see additional benefits by offering better customer service and increasing their green credentials, often helping to generate new business.”

In April, Trimble introduced its GeoManager Work Management, a new cloud-based field service solution to manage fleet productivity. The solution aims to provide on-demand visibility into vehicle and mobile worker utilisation.
