Volkswagen has strengthened its fleet team with the recruitment of three new customer-facing staff who will be instrumental in developing the brand's presence in key markets.

Earlier in 2013, a new group fleet function was established within the Volkswagen Group, combining forces and maximising synergies between back office functions for all the Group brand fleet teams, such as databases, IT development and invoicing processes.

With this department now operational, the brand teams are able to focus on building relationships with fleet customers and working with Volkswagen's fleet retailers across the UK to deliver products and services to company car drivers and fleet managers.

Joining the team are James Scott, who becomes area fleet manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Daniel Rushton, who takes over as area fleet manager for Central East of England, and Mark Johnson who has joined Volkswagen as fleet sales manager.

James Scott has worked in the motor industry for over 12 years and joined the Volkswagen Fleet team from the leasing sector.  Previously he worked in various account management and new business development teams with Avis.

Daniel Rushton has been with Volkswagen Group for more than six years, having started his career as a Graduate and gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience working closely with fleet industry influencers.  More recently, Rushton worked in supply and planning roles in the Volkswagen brand.

Mark Johnson has joined Volkswagen as fleet sales manager responsible for a team of five area fleet managers in the south of England.  Before coming to Volkswagen, Johnson spent ten years with Toyota in various roles in fleet, product marketing and retail sales operations.

Commenting on his new position, Johnson said: "Volkswagen is renowned in the fleet market for the quality of its products and the commitment of its fleet team.  I trust that my combined experiences both in and out of fleet will help me make a solid and immediate contribution to the team."

Volkswagen UK's head of fleet, Michael O'Shea, said: "I'm delighted that James, Daniel and Mark have joined our team to strengthen our relationships with customers.  These relationships are key to us achieving the goals we have set for the next five years."

These new appointments bring the Volkswagen fleet team up to full capacity, with nine area fleet managers, two fleet sales managers, two contract hire and leasing managers and one public sector manager.
