• Volvo S90 available to drive at Company Car In Action
  • First opportunity for fleets to drive the car in the UK
  • Volvo also bringing a ‘special guest’ model

Volvo will be offering early test drives of the new S90 saloon at Company Car in Action in June.

The event, on June 14-15, is open to fleet decision makers and gives them the freedom to try the latest models on circuits at Millbrook Proving Ground, in Bedfordshire MK45 2JQ. It will be the first chance for attendees to drive the S90 in the UK, three months ahead of UK customer deliveries.

The S90 continues Volvo’s evolution into a rival for other premium brands. Like the XC90, launched in 2015, the S90 was developed independently of other manufacturers and doesn’t rely on partners for engines or for sharing platform development costs.

The executive saloon is already available to order and will be offered with front-wheel drive D4 diesel, all-wheel drive D5 diesel, and all-wheel drive T8 plug-in hybrid power.

Entry-level cars come with leather upholstery, LED headlights with active high beam, Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system with a nine-inch touch screen, satellite navigation (including lifetime annual map updates), a voice-control system, and access to the internet and a range of cloud-based apps.

Also standard is Volvo Pilot Assist, which automatically keeps the S90 at a set speed or distance from the vehicle in front, braking and accelerating with the flow of traffic, and gives gentle steering inputs to keep the car within lane markings at motorway speeds up to 80 mph. Unlike previous versions of the system, it no longer needs to follow another car.

The S90 will be accompanied by the XC90 T8, which will be the first time at Company Car in Action for the plug-in hybrid version of the SUV, as well as other models in the Volvo range.

Volvo’s stand will also feature a ‘special guest’ model – a static exhibit ahead of its introduction to the UK in future. Its identity will be revealed at the event.

Selwyn Cooper, head of business sales at Volvo Car UK, said: “Company Car in Action (CCIA) is a fantastic platform for Volvo Car UK as it gives us the opportunity to talk to fleet decision makers before they test drive to ensure they are getting the absolute best out of each model.

“This year, we’re returning to CCIA with a portfolio of exceptionally strong business-relevant cars which build on Volvo’s safety heritage and takes advantage of the technological developments enabled by our innovative in-house platform and engine designs.

“As part of the top-of-the-line 90 series, Volvo’s S90 premium saloon will take centre stage for us at CCIA, giving those attending the opportunity to experience the first fleet test drives in the UK. We’ll also be bringing other cars in the Volvo range for visitors to drive, including the popular V40 and XC60 models, as well as the award-winning XC90 T8 Twin Engine.

“For both the S90 and XC90 T8 Twin Engine, guests will undergo a full handover with Volvo prior to their test drive. This exchange of information is vital to allow drivers to understand the technology in the cars and how to extract the best of it in a 15 minute drive.”
