Zipcar has appointed Mobile Mechanic, a new service from Dropless, to maintain its fleet of car sharing vehicles.

The mobile vehicle maintenance and repairs service will initially support Zipcar’s fleet of 2,500 vehicles across Greater London, enabling it to maximise uptime.

Mobile Mechanic is built on the same platform as Dropless’s app-based, mobile waterless car washing service. It allows customers to book, with a click of a button, a full range of maintenance, diagnostic and repair options such as an interim or full service, headlight replacement, brake disc and pad replacement.

Jake Jeffcoate, fleet operations manager at Zipcar, said: It’s vital our fleet of over 3,000 cars and vans remain well-maintained and roadworthy. Our members rely on our service in their daily lives and the Dropless Mobile Mechanic service will dramatically streamline our maintenance schedule, keeping vehicles on the road for longer and providing better availability to customers.”

Only mobile mechanics and local garages that meet strictly maintained high standards get the Dropless seal of approval, with stringent bi-annual vetting of all partners taking place.

Mike Grindy, CEO of Dropless, added: “The car maintenance industry has seen very little innovation over the years and the result is antiquated and costly practices which are bad for customers.

“Vehicle maintenance and repair should help rather than hinder the smooth operation of a fleet, with maintenance schedules fitting around vehicle usage and downtime.

“We’re pleased to say Mobile Mechanic offers fleet owners such as Zipcar a reliable, trustworthy and cost-effective option for streamlining their fleet management. Today is a big step in our mission to offer vehicle owners and fleet managers an all-in-one digital platform for car maintenance.”
