Brake’s Road Safety Week 2019 (18-24 November) is now open for employers to register. The UK road safety event brings communities, schools and organisations together, to raise road awareness and safety.

Brake has called for employers to go and reigster for a free action pack to help them promote road and driver safety:

The charity is also promoting its non-profit global scheme, Global Fleet Champions, which is running a free webinar on Tuesday 10 September at 2pm. It aims to prevent crashes and reduce pollution caused by vehicles used for work purposes.

Dave Nichols, community engagement manager for Brake, said: “We believe it’s everyone’s human right to be able to get around in a safe and healthy way every day.

“With far too many people still being killed and seriously injured on our roads, this Road Safety Week we want everyone to “Step up for Safe Streets” and learn about, shout about and celebrate the amazing design-led solutions that can help us end this suffering and create a safe and healthy future for all.

“Employers can really take the lead on safe and healthy journeys and help get these vital messages out to drivers, families and young people, making a big difference to their local community.

“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already registered to sign up now for their free action pack”

This year’s Road Safety Week is supported by Department for Transport (DfT). It’s encouraging everyone to ‘Step up for safe streets’. The safety awareness week will focus on how everyone can ‘step up’ and ensure road safety is increased.

Brake, however, wants employers to take the lead in promoting safe and healthy journeys. It suggests they have policies and procedures in place that maximise road safety, reducing risk.

The charity will discuss how safe, zero-emission vehicles, maintaining manufacturer guidelines and taking the safest route, can all help to reduce accidents and deaths on the road.

Employers are also being helped with ways to promote walking, cycling and use of public transport for its employees.

Brake's Road Safety Week has been raising awareness for 22 years and provides an opportunity for employers, especially those with professional drivers, to initiate safe travel internally, as well as raising awareness in their local community with road safety campaigns.
