Fleet Source has attempted to help Vulnerable Road User (non-motorised road users such as pedestrians and cyclists) training, by unveiling a new driver CPC training package.

The Department of Transport 2018 annual casualty figures shows a combined 1,784 road deaths, with 1,030 on rural roads, 646 on urban roads and 107 on motorways.

Its training, which is called Safe UK Driving, covers professional driver training in cities, rural areas and on motorways.

Fleet Source chief executive officer, Nick Caesari, said: “Fleet professionals and commercial drivers don’t need me to tell them that the responsibilities and challenges of safe driving don’t end once they emerge from city boundaries.

Caesari believes the industry is well aware that urban area driving, motorways and rural routes, are all a part of their journey planning.

He continued to explain that Fleet Source has been working closely with customers to develop a training package that combines every aspect of their working environment, not just the busy road challenges.

“UK roads are becoming increasingly complex, congested and challenging for those who have to operate on them on a daily basis and anything we can do to mitigate those challenges, reduce risks and better prepare drivers to identify and predict hazards and hazardous situations, will ultimately help to save lives.”

The detailed one-day course, which is Driver CPC approved, also meets FORS Silver, CLOCS Standard and contractual Work-Related Road Risk standards.

Recent Fleet Source analysis showed that UK transport managers were worried that there would be a decrease of CPC-compliant drivers after last month’s deadline.

Over half (53%) of those who took part in the study said they were concerned about a possible reduction in fully CPC-trained drivers.
