Volvo expands XC40 range with new petrol and diesel engines

Volvo has added a range of new powertrains to its XC40 compact SUV.

A new T3 three-cylinder petrol unit joins as the entry point to the range.

T4 Petrol and D3 diesel versions are also now available.

Prices for the revised range start at £27,610 for the T3 Momentum model.

The T3 1.5-litre petrol is Volvo's first ever three-cylinder engine. It 156PS and comes with a six-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic option will be introduced at a later date.

It offers fuel economy of up to 45.6mpg and CO2 emissions from 144g/km.

The 190PS T4 comes with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission as standard, while the frugal D3 offers both manual and automatic options.

Company car drivers will find the D3 offers the lowest CO2 emissions of 127g/km.

All models feature a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav. Automatic LED headlights with Active High Beam, 18-inch alloy wheels and a dual-zone climate control, keyless start, rear parking sensors, cruise control, automatic windscreen wipers and integrated roof rails all come as standard.

R-Design models are distinguished by exterior features such as a Black Stone roof and door mirrors, high-gloss black grille, front and rear skid plates, roof rails and window frames, dark-tinted rear windows, integrated dual tailpipes, and alloy wheels with diamond-cut and matt-black finish.

Equipment features include leather and Nubuck upholstery, front seat cushion extensions and LED front foglights. The R-Design also gets more dynamic suspension settings than other XC40s, including stiffer springs, thicker anti-roll bars and faster-acting rear shock absorbers.

The Inscription specification builds includes Driftwood cabin inlays, leather-faced upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, ambient door and instrument panel lighting, and a powered tailgate.

The Pro versions of each grade introduce further comfort and convenience elements, including heated front seats, larger-diameter wheels (on R-Design Pro and Inscription Pro models), active bending headlights, LED front foglights with cornering function, and a heated windscreen.
