Nissan has pulled the wraps off its all-new Interstar large van, which is due to go on sale before the end of the year.

The new Interstar shares a platform with recently-revealed Renault Master.

Aerodynamics were a key influence on the van's design, in order to maximise efficiency. As a result, the vehicle has a more steeply raked windscreen, a flatter underbody and a curved roof.

Nissan says the Interstar now generates 20% less drag, reducing its consumption of fuel or electricity.

Key to the offer will be the new Interstar-e, which comes with a choice of two electric powertrain options. The top version comes with an 87kWh battery, providing a range of 286 miles, while a smaller 40kWh unit will also be available with a 124-mile range.

Diesel powertrains will also be available, with power outputs of 105PS, 130PS, 150PS and 170PS. These will all be paired with a six-speed manual, while a nine-speed automatic will be offered on the two most poweful variants.

Nissan has not detailed which versions of the Interstar will be offered in the UK, or confirmed the specifications.

Both diesel and electric powertrains will be offered, however, and there will be two length (5.68m and 6.31m) and two height (2.5m and 2.75m) options.

Cargo capacity ranges from 10.8 cubic metres to 22 cubic metres.

Payloads of up to 1,125Kg (3.5-tonne) and 1,625Kg (4.0-tonne) were quoted for the Interstar-e.

Alongside its new body, the Interstar benefits from a fresh interior design. Nissan says the cabin is more spacious than before and the van adopts a driver-focused layout, with the infotainment system mounted on a wraparound dashboard.

As standard, all new generation Interstar models are equipped with a wide range of safety features, including Forward Emergency Braking, Drowsiness Warning and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The Trailer Sway Assist is also included in this brand-new offering, for added security while towing.

Manoeuvrability is also improved in the newest model, which has an improved turning diameter of -1.5 metres compared to older versions.

The next generation Interstar will come to market with a wide range of factory-built conversions, including Tipper, Dropside and Box Van. Pre-sales are set to commence in Q2, before the model arrives in Q4.
