Shashi Maharaj (pictured) has joined the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) as legal and membership director, responsible for the association’s governance, compliance and membership functions.

The former BMW Financial Services head of strategy has spent more than 20 years with BMW in a variety of senior legal, strategy and compliance roles. Most recently he has been responsible for governance and compliance in the UK and Ireland.

He said: “The BVRLA is a very well-respected and influential trade body committed to promoting the highest industry standards and I am looking forward to working with members and colleagues across the association to support the vehicle rental, leasing and fleet sectors as we navigate the unchartered waters of a post-Brexit and post-pandemic business environment.”

BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said: “We are delighted to welcome Shashi to the BVRLA family, where I know he will play an important and valuable role as part of the senior management team.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience and his strategic input will undoubtedly help to shape the future of the association as our members’ businesses continue to adapt to meet the ever-evolving needs of customers at a time of ongoing regulatory change.”
