Renault has taken that wraps of its new Master van, which will be available with a fully-electric powertrain offering a range up to 285 miles.

The LCV, which will be available to pre-order across Europe from Q1 2024 with official ordering opening Q2 and customer deliveries from September, will also be offered with a smaller battery offering 113 miles, as well as four diesel dCi powertrains which consume substantially less fuel and release less CO2 than the current powertrains.

Helene Carvalho, Renault Master programme leader, said: “Our goal with the all-new Renault Master was to get as close as we could to the ideal van.

“Tradespeople, contractors and fleet managers will see a real leap forwards, a vehicle that is there for them whenever they need it.”

The cabin features a standard 10-inch screen, an OpenR Link system with Google built-in capabilities meaning drivers will have access to Google Maps navigation, the Google Play app catalogue and the voice-controlled Google Assistant directly integrated in the dashboard.

It also features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality, and several cues from the manufacturer’s passenger car range, to improve the driver experience, says Renault.

The manufacturer says the new Master is 20% more aerodynamic than the outgoing model, improving efficiency and CO2 – its emissions are 39g/km lower and now below 200g/km - and reducing wind noise in the cockpit.

Four diesel powertrains, delivering 105, 130, 150 or 170hp are available, with transmission options either a manual gearbox or a new nine-speed automatic EAG9 converter gearbox.

The fully-electric models are powered by a 131PS or 143PS motor, both delivering 300Nm of torque.

The first runs on a 40kWh battery and has a 124 mile range, the second on an 87kWh battery with a 285-mile range.

Versions sold in the UK market will only be available with the larger battery, offering a range of 255 miles.

Renault says the new electric Master has a payload capacity of 1,625kg in a van requiring a B-category driving licence.

A 130 kW DC fast charge adds 143 miles of range in 30 minutes. A 22 kW AC home charger tops up the battery from 10% to 100% in just under four hours.

Master is also designed to accommodate a hydrogen H2-Tech engine and fuel cell in future.

The new LCV range has a set of 20 driver assistance systems including for lateral stability, automatic emergency braking and trailer stability assist systems, as well as intelligent speed assist.

When it launches, the new Master range will comprise 20 silhouettes ranging from 11cu m to 22cu m, with a 40mm wider opening at the sliding door and 100mm longer load areas.

They will have a payload of up to two tonnes.

There are 20 conversion bases available from production plants, with Renault saying this catalogue of factory-mounted kits shortening turnaround times and simplifies transport logistics.
